The fun of planning begins again! Actually the planning has been on the way but there is lots more planning to plan!! Yikes – I better get moving! I am starting the blog…..so that it will get me going and start making the finalizations of our trip!!
My husband (Bart) and I are excited to show our 4 boys where they Oma and Opa and Pake and Beppe are from. We are taking them to Netherlands this Spring 2026!! We knew if we didn’t do it NOW we probably were not ever going to do it, so we postponed a trip to Italy (sorry Debbie and Hank) to make this happen!! ITALY will be our next big trip!!
The Netherlands Plan!
- 1 week – Bart and I are going to cycle the Elfstedentocht route through Friesland. The Elfstedentocht is the biggest ice-skating tour in the world. In the last 50 years it has only taken place like 3 times, the last time in 1997. So when it happens on the canal in Netherlands, it is a BIG DEAL!!! They now also do it as a cyling race every year – 200 km in one day. Bart and I are not going to do the race (lol) and we are not going to even do it in one day (lol), but we are going to cycle the 200 km route they take over a week, and enjoy the villiages, the scenery, the countryside, the patios, the food, the drinks, the company we meet up with, etc.. Friesland is a gorgeous province. I have cycled through a small part of it with my sisters. I have been there with Bart and my sisters – we have cycled on 2 of the Friesland Islands – Schiermonnikoog Island and Ameland Island. I have a membership with “Friends op de Fiets“. When my sisters and I went on a trip a few years ago, we stayed at some of these accomodations. Very nice, very reasonably priced and we always had a comfortable bed, a delicious breakfast, usually a packed lunch, and good accomodations. Bart and I don’t have our accomodations booked yet for our week of cycling but I am looking forward to getting this booked over the next month.
I will be giving you more info on the Elfstedentocht and the Friends op de Fiets and the villages we will stay in…..stay tuned on my blog. - 9 nights the boys (and girlfriends) will join
- 3 nights in Friesland to show them where Pake and Beppe are from
- 3 nights in Drenthe to show them where Oma and Opa are from
- 3 nights in Amsterdam to show them – one great City!!!
Just starting the blog on this next adventure, is getting me more excited!
