My sister Margaret and Dennis moved to Stavely, Alberta about 3 or 4 years ago. It is the smallest town in Alberta! (that is a town that has a mayor). Stavely is about 1 hour south of Calgary. They have just over 500 residents.
Margaret arranged for their friend Tom, who owns the grain elevator in town, to give us a tour.
Apparently the grain elevator is always by the railway track (for trains coming in to load up) and so is the hotel/tavern – I guess for those coming in to load up too – on booze!! lol.

Stavely has the only working grain elevator in the area owned by Husted Farms Ltd. in the area.

Alberta’s feedlots are a vital part of Canada’s beef production, contributing significantly to the industry’s economic value and overall output Alberta has the highest number of feedlots in the country and produces the most beef, with many located near major processors. Alberta has 156 finishing feedlots and almost 38 percent of them have capacity of 20,000 head or more. Big business!!

Margaret gave us the grand tour of their town, so after our grain elevator tour, we went for a tour of the local hotel/pub/tavern!! Cheers!!!

Bye bye Margaret and Dennis! Thank you so much for a great stay, showing us around, and giving us the grand tour of your town – Stavely, Alberta!

Stavely is home to Canada’s 1st Indoor Rodeo. It takes place mid-June. Too bad we are not there at the time of the rodeo. For sure….next time!! I would love to go to a rodeo. I watch it on the Heartland series and see how much fun they have. I want to go!

As we were heading to Calgary, we drove through rain and storms. When we arrived to the airport, there was a big storm coming through so unfortunatley our flight was delayed. 🙁
We ended up leaving about 30 minutes late 7:30 p.m. Calgary time, and arriving just after 1 a.m. in Hamilton! Brent came to pick us up which was awesome….only a 10 minute drive from home. Unfortunately we found out the next morning that Debbie and Hank had to call CAA for a boost and didn’t get home until after 3 a.m. 🙁

As you see from all my blogs this trip……there are so many things we decided we need to do next time. So…..will there be another trip to the West? Absolutely. So look forward to our pictures from next time!!! Cheers to the West!!
