We left Freeport Maine around 10 a.m. heading towards Schenectady, New York State. Dang – I totally forgot to make the stop at the L.L. Bean Factory Store which was something I talked about so much for so long. I can’t believe I forgot. Next time!!!
I caught this pic as we were driving through Massachusetts. So I googled it.……”If you drive on Route 495, at Exit 48 in Haverhill, Massachusetts, you can’t miss a 26-foot-tall “dog with a big bone in the middle of its stomach.”

As we were driving today I was going through all my brochures etc. that I had picked up. This one highlighting all the light houses in Nova Scotia we picked up in Middleton, Annapolis Valley. I had never seen it anywhere before or after this, but it is cool as it is a checklist of all the lighthouses you can go to in Nova Scotia – it gives you the names of them all, and it gives you the addresses so you can GPS them. The East Coast has the most lighthouses in all of Canada, and understandably as they have the most coastal land.

We stop in Schenectady to pick up some wine and we find the Wild Wine and Liquor store in Rotterdam, New York. Way more exciting then our LCBO stores in Ontario!

As we leave Rotterdam, we see a windmill and a sign to Amsterdam. We plan to visit Amsterdam tomorrow. For now we just want to find our campsite at Arrowhead RV and Marina Campground.

We are meeting up with my sister Debbie and Hank who are travelling from Niagara Ontario. It is about a 4 1/2 hour drive for them and it is about a 5 hour drive back home for us. Hmmm…..we are really happy with this park on the Mohawk River so maybe we will have to come back one day. So….I learned that the Mohawk River is part of the Eire Canal. The Erie Canal runs all the way from Buffalo to New York City. Wow! So we had boats coming back that were travelling the canal system. The Arrowhead park had docks for boats that could book a nights stay and enjoy the amenities at the park.

Debbie took a cute video of Bart and I setting up our clam. Check out how easy it is!!

I am very happy with our choice of cutting across the US to get to Eastern Canada and would for sure do it again. I think there would be a route that you can take mostly big highways, with just a smaller 2-lane highway through Maine through the mountains.
As we were travelling we were planning a future trip – maybe head to Boston, Cape Cod area and then drive along the coast to Portland, Freeport (stop at L.L. Bean this time), the Fundy Coastal Trail and then make our way to the East Coast to explore more that we missed on this trip.
It was great connecting with Debbie and Hank. The temperatures was in the high 30’s so it was difficult to do anything that you had to exert yourself. So we found a local brewery – Druther’s Brewery – in Schenectady where it was cool, we had food, drinks and live entertainment. Cheers!!

We are looking forward to spending time with Debbie and Hank for a couple nights. It is extremely hot so we plan to have a road trip tomorrow……to have air conditioning in the truck…..and maybe we will find some wineries to visit.
