Travel day. We are taking the ferry from Digby to St. John New Brunswick. We reserved months ago as it only runs once a day at 11 a.m. It goes across the Bay of Fundy 80 kms. and takes 2 to 2 1/2 hours to cross.
This pic is early morning at Digby Campground just before leaving for the day. It is a great location in Digby as you are near the Digby Neck, the ferry, and can travel the Annapolis valley, and you could walk into town if needed (about 10/15 minute walk). The sites are quite tight, even for a RV park, but it is well maintained and clean, you have hot showers, and the sound of the sprinkler in the pond is great white noise for sleeping. lol. Would I stay again if touring the area? Yes, but I would ask for site #13 which we had a bit more space/privacy. Would Bart stay again? Not so sure. If you know any nice campgrounds near Digby town, let me know.

We arrived to catch the ferry (Fundy Rose) early which was fine as you just park your vehicle and then can go sit inside. We sat in the lounge where we had a nice view and I could plug in my laptop and do a bit of blogging. When I say lounge it is just that – a room with seats, no restaurants or shops, etc.

While on the ferry I could catch up on some travel research. Reversing Falls Rapids sounds cool, maybe something to see the next time we go East.

Also somewhere to visit would be Yarmouth and the Heritage Brewing Company. I got to taste a few of their beers on the ferry – Freezing Spray (an IPA) and Rusty Truck (a red ale) and both were really good! We have been told that the coast from Digby to Yarmouth is nice so we will have to do that one day.

The Fundy Rose crosses 80 km across the Bay of Fundy. That is much further than I would have thought. Too bad that we can’t spend any time in St. John New Brunswick. It sounds like there are some nice things to see. One I would have wanted to see the container village – “In June 2022, we premiered the full waterfront experience with a diverse collection of retail shops, a performance space, a Waterfront Container Lounge, food trucks, public art and pop-up activities. All wrapped up in more than 60 shipping containers, celebrating everything that’s cool about being a Port City.” Cool!!

After arriving in St. John New Brunswick around 1:30 p.m. we still had 5 hours to get to Freeport Maine (our next stop over) and so we really had no time to make any additional stops. The Fundy Costal Trail is another thing that is on our list for next time.
In Freeport we found out that restaurants were either closed (for July 4th) or they closed early (7 p.m.) which was normal. We managed to find a very nice brewery that the kitchen was open to 9 p.m. We got to try some local beers and have a bite to eat. I had fish and potato cakes – after eating all the seafood/fish in the East Coast, this one was nothing to write home about. Gritty McDuff’s atmosphere was nice as they had great seating outside, and a fenced in yard with a kids play structure, so a great place to go with the whole family.

We had a nice newly renovated Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites in Freeport. It was right off the highway. We got to sleep in a King bed (instead of our single cots – which by the way were way more comfy than we thought). We had free breakfast in the morning. They also had a pool, and if I had not been so exhausted this day, I would have used it. I crawled into bed right after dinner and fell asleep to the sounds of fireworks, but totally missed seeing them!!!
Happy 4th of July!!!
