Tulips and biking!! – April 25th

What a great day we had in the tulips. We went to Keukenhof Gardens, the largest Spring garden in the world.

We took 2 buses to get us there. It is in Lisse (near the airport) outside of Amsterdam. we are meeting up with a number of people. Chris Hemelik’s (who lives in Hamilton) parents Henk and Inge met us. And then Willy and Albert, and Tom and Roanne (my cousins) met up with us there too.

On the bus again!
South Amsterdam has some newer buildings with interesting architecture.
It was a chilly day and Bart and I broke down and bought hats and gloves at Keukenhof Gardens. So glad we did as it kept us warm in the afternoon when we were cycling.
A mural made of all painted rocks! Cool!

It was so great to meet up with some family! They had never been to the gardens so it was a good reason to go visit…at least once in their life.

I liked Bart’s hat because I could always spot him in a crowd. Lol. Like Waldo but “Where’s Bart?!!!“
We had a nice visit with Willy and Albert and Roanne and Tom.
We are family!!
We met Henk and Inge!

We stayed from 8 am to 12:30 pm. Our bike rentals were about 1.5 km down the road. Tom and Roanne made two trips to bring us there. They also brought us a loaf of Drenthe koek (cake) . Typically each province or region has their own cake.

Woo hoo!! Time to get on our bikes!
And the fields start. We saw many!
Bob and Tracy
Sonya and Bart!
Steve and Andrea.
Look at us….in the tulip fields!!

The tulip fields were wow wow wow!!! such a nice thing to see and bike through. We cycled about 25 in in total. We went to the North Sea, cycled through big dunes, and met Roanne and Tom at a restaurant on the sea. We had drinks and snacks. I had bitterballen of course! What a perfect day!!

We made it to the North Sea.

The bus back to Amsterdam was not the greatest. We had to stand for one hour and hold on tight every time he slammed on the brakes due to heavy traffic. We were happy to get off! Only to take another bus! But I have to say that the public transportation in Amsterdam is primo! We took bus, tram, train, bus and metro (subway). We got our moneys worth from our 3 day pass we purchased.

We stopped at a pizzeria next door to our accommodations and went back to our place and the 6 of us ate together. For dessert we had the Drenthe cake – thank you Tom and Roanne. It was delicious.

Cheers to a great day. And cheers to the Drenthe cake that we had for dessert.

Such a great day! And tomorrow we head to Delft Netherlands!
