Happy Birthday Bob!!
Bye bye Amsterdam and hello Delft! We took the bus to the Amsterdam Station Zoud to catch the train to Delft. Delft is near Rotterdam.

(Taken from google) – Delft, a canal-ringed city in the western Netherlands, is known as the manufacturing base for Delftware, hand-painted blue-and-white pottery. In its old town, the medieval Oude Kerk is the burial site of native son and Dutch Master painter Johannes Vermeer. Once the seat of the royal House of Orange, the 15th-century Nieuwe Kerk houses the family’s tombs and overlooks Delft’s lively market square.
Delft is lovely! We have a B & B in a canal house. Anne our host was so lovely. We had all 3 rooms and a nice garden area in the middle. She fed us a great breakfast and always enough to pack a lunch for all of us.

Our plan was to go to Rotterdam for King’s Day bit after talking with people and considering how busy it would be, we decided to stay in Delft. Rotterdam would have been very busy since the King and his family were also there for the day. We then thought we might take the tram to Den Hague and to the sea, but then also decided to just stay in Delft. We went on a canal cruise with a very knowledgeable Dutch boy. He was 24 and was born in Delft.

For Bob’s birthday, his daughter Emily and Connor gave him a card that had a list of Dutch things he had to eat: Soude Haring (sour herring), croquettes, Dutch dessert, local beer, rookworst (sausage), Dutch kaas (cheese), etc. He did them all!!

We had a nice dinner out for Bob’s birthday. Lekker! We hung out at Bob and Tracy’s for drinks and Dutch dessert (tompouce)! We laughed a lot! What a great day!
