Amsterdam – Hello Amsterdam!!! – April 23rd

We had a 20 minute walk to the train station from our boat. And then we had to get Tram 1 from central station to take it to our accommodations. Bob and Tracy and Bart and I are staying at Wouter and Zu’s (my Dutch friends) and Steve and Andrea found a B&B very close to us, about a 10 minute walk away.

Hello Amsterdam!!!!! Look out – Sonya has arrived!!! And Bart and Tracy.
Steve and Andrea arrive in Amsterdam!!
Woo hoo!! We are in Amsterdam!! Just off the boat and ready to jump into…..busy!!!!

We got through the train station and now getting into the tram!!
When in Amsterdam….public transportation is the only way!
Some of the streets were so narrow, we had to go single file.

We dropped our luggage off and then we walked through Vondel Park to get to the city centre. It is about 3.5 km long walk through the park. They have a natural area where we saw a stork with her baby and many other birds. The birds were singing the whole time as we walked. And so many bikes zipping through!

Stork and her baby!

We went to the flower market. It is the largest floating flower market in the world. It is amazing how they figure out how to find more space by using the canals and adding floating buildings.

This shop’s ceiling was full of flowers!

We headed to where we would get a canal cruise later today, but then had difficulty finding a place to stop for dinner. Also it was rainy. We finally found a small pub where they were playing the soccer game and it was very loud. There wasn’t much room, but he found a spot for the 6 of us, but did comment the only reason was that I was persistent. Hmmm…I didn’t say much, I just sat down, so I guess he thought that meant I wasn’t moving. Lol. Well..we stayed for snacks and drinks and then also stayed for dinner! He ended up semi-warming up to us.

I had Dutch pea soup and roogebrood and spek!

We had a canal wine and cheese cruise at 7:15. It was rainy so a bit difficult to see as the plastic windows were fogging up but none the less fun. We met Angela and Derek from Canada. They had just arrived in Amsterdam for a weeks visit.

The Anne Frank statue was right by our canal cruise starting point.
Cheers on our canal cruise!!
The 7 bridges in Amsterdam. it was bit rainy but we still had fun!

After the canal cruise we took the tram back to our accommodations. We were all very tired after a long day of walking around Amsterdam.
