Amsterdam Day 2 – April 24th

What a fabulous day in Amsterdam! The rained stopped. It was a bit cool but all good!!

We started with a tour of Anne Frank house. I went through 9 years ago, and there were a lot of changes. They have made it a self audio tour. Prior to going into the hiding place you have a good understanding of who was there in hiding and who was helping them out. It is a very emotional museum to go through, especially since my parents and Bart’s parents lived through world war 2 in the Netherlands.

We then went to Dam Square where we saw the Kings Palace. we sat at a cafe outside (with heaters) and had a lekker (yummy) coffee with some bitterballlen. And of course a little Dutch treat – in Netherlands you always get a treat with your coffee.

I never get tired of this view!
The tulip displays throughout the city are so beautiful!

Lekker coffee and bitterballen in Dam Square!
I need to find myself one of these. Bitterballen plate. Maybe I can find one at the Delft Pottery museum store.

What a cute little car. They even rode these in the bike lanes!

We walked to Wynand Fokink the oldest tasting bar in Amsterdam. They don’t open until 2 pm and it was only 1 pm. Darn! Typically this is our first stop in Amsterdam.

We went to see the oude kerk (old church) – so crazy that it is in the middle of the red light district. There was a statue there of a women who started the Salvation Army and took in troubled women to help them.

We went to see Amsterdam’s Central station – such a gorgeous building. And then on to the place that Bob has wanted to go to – the monkey bar! Yay!! They opened up at 2 pm and we could only stay for 20 minutes as we had to get to the next tour – Heineken Experience! But we had a really lekker beer that tasted like bananas.

We had fun taking the metro (subway)!from central station. Wow I saw the longest escalator ever! I think the metro is new since 2018. It goes very fast and in no time we were at musemplein where the Heineken museum is. Fun times begin!

Wow what a huge escalator.
And the fun begins.

We met our friends that we met on our canal cruise there again! Angela and Derek. They are from Vancouver and Calgary. Funny we booked the same two tours at the exact same time in one huge city!

The tour was great fun. There was some interaction with games and making our own videos etc. I will have to share one on Facebook. We got 3 beers on the tour and then another on the rooftop where we got a nice view of the Rijksmuseum. some of us got a bit tipsy drinking so much beer in a short time. Lol. Fun times! Bob keeps us entertained with his jokes, and he extends them to other tourists, so sometimes we pretend we are not with him. Lol.

Heineken!

There are only 4 ingredients in Heinekin
Gorgeous Stainglass windows in the Heineken plant.
They put us in this moving belt to simulate that we were in the vat and then we got bottled and boxed and then we went to the drinking stage!
Good times!

Cheers to Heineken!
We should have this in Canada. Throw all your items in the box all together and it scans them all and gives you your total.

We walked through Rijksmuseum which is so lovely as they play classical music and it ricochets off the walls. The back gardens are so beautiful and they have the stone water pool full of big displays of tulips. We walked by the museums Bols (Dutch liquor) and Van Gogh. We walked past a pannakoken (Dutch pancakes) and made a note that we need to have one this week.

We took the tram to Tulip Indian restaurant, near our accommodations and had a wonderful meal together. Cheers!

And cheers to a fabulous day in Amsterdam!
