We had a day cruising on the water. We started to see a lot more boats (mostly cargo) as we are getting closer to the North Sea. We are in Netherlands and everything is very flat. I am happy as I love the Netherlands!
At 4:30 pm we had a tour of Kinderdijk. There are 18 windmills there. There are a few for tourists to go into and there are others that are occupied with people living in them still. The first one was built in 1650. I can’t believe that there was a family of 14 living in one – a mom and dad and 12 kids. That would be the same number as what I grew up in my family, so I couldn’t imagine us all living in a windmill together. We would have been on top of each other!
Too bad it was so rainy when we visited. Rain rain go away. We toured inside the windmill. These 18 windmills are ones to remove the water to keep the area from flooding. The livingroom/kitchen in the windmill. Cute cubby beds in the windmill There are different types of windmills. These were to remove water. Then you have some that make grain, and there are others that produce electricity. Rain, wind, sunshine, whatever the weather….we are having a great time!!The cat and the baby story. How Kinderdijk (translates to Children’s Dike) got its name. In a flood the baby in the cradle was floating away in the water, and the cat jumped in to balance it so it wouldn’t tip. Back on the boat! Bye bye Kinderdijk! The line through the name means you are leaving a place. New flowers for our dinner table! Tulips. We chat about our upcoming trip to the tulip fields, something we have planned when we are in Amsterdam. The dinners were gourmet!! It is so nice to be pampered! We tried many nice wines and beers, and always chose to drink and eat the local choices. My Dutch seafood meal! yum yum!!Sporting our flowers! Bob wanted to join in the fun! And then Wez wanted to join in the fun too! Always fun times in the lounge in the evening, listening to music, dancing, playing games, watching entertainment (this night they brought in a Dutch group that sang 70’s dance music and got everyone up on the dance floor)Stille Nacht! Marcio and Jess took good care of us in the evening on the ship!
It is our last night on the boat and when we wake up, we will be in Amsterdam.
