Speyer & Rudesheim Germany – April 19th

Our boat let us off in Speyer where we had a walking tour. All the guides we have are local residents so it is nice as they can answer our questions and know a lot about the history of their village/city.

The Cathedral was the burial place of the German emperors for almost 300 years. Speyer Cathedral is historically, artistically and architecturally one of the most significant examples of Romanesque architecture in Europe.

Our guide was very knowledgeable of Speyer. She sang in the choir at the cathedral.

Speyer Germany. This was a all wood Protestant church. We could only peek in the windows for safety from fire etc.

They would display bones of famous people. This is someone’s femur bone and it is decorated.

Posing in front of our home for the week! Do you see the captain and second in command waving in the background?
These trees (aka truffala trees as Tracy calls them) are in the side of the Rhine. We looked it up and it is actually a parasite to the tree called European mistletoe.

Our boat travelled on to Rudesheim Germany. After dinner we went into the village.
In town Rudesheim
We went to Logo a local pub where they were all intensely watching the soccer game! Apparently I was wearing the wrong color (the opposing team was yellow) and we were getting some looks from the locals!
