Only 4 weeks away!!

Wow time has flown! I last bogged in November that we were planning a Spring trip, and here we are very excited and only 4 weeks away from leaving on a jet plane!!!

In addition to our friends Bob and Tracy travelling with us, Steve and Andrea are also joining us both for the River Cruise and our week in the Netherlands! Honestly I think that just the planning and thinking and anticipation of travelling is 100% excellent for my health!

The plans are still similar to what we originally planned in November, river cruise from Switzerland to Amsterdam and then a week in the Netherlands. Instead of cycling for 3 days, we have plans to cycle one day which we are just finalizing! We also found a 3-bedroom AirBnB in Basel, Switzerland in the old town where we will spend our first night. If you have been to Basel and have any “must sees” please let us know.

Grossbasel

The old town in Basel is called Grossbasel. I found this interesting blog 20 reasons to fall in love with Basel Switzerland which gives you a quick glimpse of Basel! Although Zurich and Lucerne are probably the first cities we think of when you think of Switzerland, we picked Basel as that is where our boat leaves from. When I google and read what others have to say about Grossbasel, I think we are going to love it!

We then travel on the Rhine for 7 days, stopping every day, touring every day, and taking in so much history!!
But also sitting on patios, relaxing, enjoying good food and drinks, great company, meeting new people, laughing and having fun! Someone asked me if I would blog every day like I did last year on my cycle trip? Hmm…I wasn’t planning on it, but maybe I should? What do you think? Should I share a bit of our trip with the rest of you each day?

Here are the stops we make between Basel, Switzerland and Amsterdam, Netherlands. If you have anything to share or must sees in any of these cities please let us know! Every day we have guided tours but often we have free time in the afternoon to tour around and do our own sightseeing!

Amsterdam & Keukenhof & Cylcing!

I am excited that we will once again spend time in Amsterdam – such a fabulous city!! There is so much to see and do and when you search “Best things to do in Amsterdam” you get flooded with information. We have made some plans of what we will do, but I always love hearing from others what their favorite things to see and do are. Please share!!

We are going to the most beautiful spring garden in the world! Keukenhof Gardens.

I was there once with my sisters almost 10 years ago in the Spring and it was most beautiful. I remember the wonderful smell as well. Keukenhof is only open from March 23 to May 14th each year. If you ever get an opportunity to visit you will not be disappointed.

So here is one of my highlights of our trip!! Cycle Day!!!

We found this route – the Flower Tour! A 35 km route that takes us to all the things that we wanted to see. Here is what it says about the route “highlights on your way, you will pass beautiful locations. Hop off your bike and visit for example Keukenhof, a tulip farm, tulip fields but also castles, the beach, the dunes and cosy villages.” It looks amazing and I can only imagine the beauty and smell cycling through the tulips!

We are happy that some family and friends will join us this day at Keukenhof and for cycling which we are just planning the final details. Bart is happy that I found a place that rents electric bikes! and I have to say after my cycle trip last year, it is a really nice treat to have a battery-assisted bike! This will be a great day!

Then our 3 days in Amsterdam area ends……but we still have 3 full days left. We will take the train further South in the Netherlands, and I will share the plans of the last 3 days in another blog later this week!

Please comment, share your experiences, share the places you think we should see and do when we are travelling on this trip! I would love to hear from you!

Dag! Tot ziens! Doei! (as the Dutch would say good-bye) but until the next blog!!

I did that river cruise the opposite way. I don’t have my photo albums here so I’m not sure who else was on it. Ask Dianne, maybe she knows. I remember random things. We’ll be home in 3 weeks and I’ll look up the photo album then. We are enjoying our new place here in Leesburg, keeping busy with golf, swimming, walking Buddy, playing cards, etc. Hopefully more of our family can visit next year. Alice

Glad you are having a great time in Florida. Yes one day I will have to visit! The trip that you took on the Rhine was Debbie and I, Margaret and Janet, and you and Dianne. Such a great trip that was! I was just looking at pics the other day. Good memories!
