We slept until 9 am. We needed that after being up for over 36 hours. We really needed coffee and after an hour trying to figure out how to use the coffee maker we gave up. lol I should have taken a video as it was quite funny. We finally downloaded the manual and found out it works on bluetooth. We tried to pair it with our phone but still no go and no coffee. We remembered that there was a coffee machine downstairs and phew it saved the day. although after drinking a few cups, realized that vrij means free. we were drinking caffeine free coffee. lol.
We ate our dutch breakfast of cheese, fresh croissants and eggs. And some local strawberries. We have a small market grocer a few doors from our place that has everything we need including beer and wine!
We met our cousin Jasper for lunch at the Double Tree rooftop patio. They have a great view of Amsterdam from many different sides. Jasper then joined us at the In’t Aepjen (aka as the Monkey Bar) a historic Amsterdam bar that used to accept sailor’s monkeys as payment. Of course I had the Monkey Beer!
We then walked to the Bloemmarket – the largest floating flower market in the world! they have the cheapest souveniers! I wish we could take tulip bulbs back to Canada but it is illegal. We enjoyed a fresh stroopwaffle – Netherlands street food.
We then walked through the art and antique section of Amsterdam and ended off at the Rijksmuseum. We were disappointed that the water and flowers they typically have outside were not there. We then headed over to the bike shop. We decided that we would see if we could get our bike panniers so that we could pack them tonight and be ready in the morning. We are such smart dutch girls!!
We walked back to our place through Vondel Park which is about 30 minutes. Gorgeous park with lots of green space They have a huge stork nest. And something new they have is a big bees hive, which is cool looking.
We made a reservation for 8:30 at an Indian restaurant about a 10 minute walk from us. Lekker (dutch for yummy)!
Now to try to pack our pannier bags for our bike trip tomorrow morning. We have to take everything we want on our bikes! Can we do it?
