May 28th at Noon we arrived. Debbie and I flew from Toronto and Janet flew from Vancouver. Our flights came into Schipol Amsterdam within 5 minutes. Debbie and I went to Toronto early anticipating it being very busy but we got through customs quite quickly and then we had 3 hours to sit and relax. We ate dinner and drank some wine! Our plane left on time at 10:45 pm and we were happy we spent some extra money to get extra leg room.
When we got to Schipol airport Janet got to the baggage area almost at the same time. We got our train ticket and off we went. The train system is so wonderful in the Netherlands. We walk down the stairs to the correct numbered platform and a few minutes later the train arrives. We only had to go one stop. We then found a machine to purchase a 48 hour tram ticket for the few days we are in Amsterdam.
We got into our place, then went to the corner grocer to get some food and drinks. And sat in the backyard for a bit. Proost
We then headed downtown to Dam Square. Dam Square is where the Kings palace is. It is also where Wynand Fokink is – the oldest tasting bar in Amsterdam. Last time I was in Amsterdam we made a new tradition to make our first stop to Wynand Fokink. We had a ginger lemon drink that was really yummy. Tradition is they fill it right to the brim and you take the first sip bowing down to the glass. We then headed to our pick up spot where we were going to catch our canal boat tour. We were early so we first sat and had some bitterballen and wine sitting at the side of the canal.
It started to rain and we had a difficult time finding our boat, but we finally did and our 70 minute tour with wine and cheese was awesome.
Since we lost a nights sleep we headed back to our place and were sleeping by midnight.
Let our adventures begin!
